וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הָעָ֜ם לֹ֣א תֵצֵ֗א כִּי֩ אִם־נֹ֨ס נָנ֜וּס לֹא־יָשִׂ֧ימוּ אֵלֵ֣ינוּ לֵ֗ב וְאִם־יָמֻ֤תוּ חֶצְיֵ֙נוּ֙ לֹֽא־יָשִׂ֤ימוּ אֵלֵ֙ינוּ֙ לֵ֔ב כִּֽי־עַתָּ֥ה כָמֹ֖נוּ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה אֲלָפִ֑ים וְעַתָּ֣ה ט֔וֹב כִּי־תִֽהְיֶה־לָּ֥נוּ מֵעִ֖יר לעזיר [לַעְזֽוֹר׃] (ס)
백성들이 가로되 왕은 나가지 마소서 우리가 도망할지라도 저희는 우리에게 주의하지 아니할 터이요 우리가 절반이나 죽을지라도 우리에게 주의하지 아니할 터이라 왕은 우리 만 명보다 중하시오니 왕은 성에 계시다가 우리를 도우심이 좋으니이다
